ABOUT
ISABELLA ARRAS
Isabella Arras is a newly London based theatre maker and writer. In theatre she often works as a director, deviser, playwright, movement choreographer, and performer. She is particularly drawn to devised and movement-based work. Other than dramatic writing, Isabella writes poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. Professionally, Isabella has written articles for websites and served as a developmental editor on manuscripts.
She graduated magna cum laude from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts with a B.F.A. in Theatre and a Minor in Creative Writing. Her primary studio training was in the Playwrights Horizons Studio, and she spent a semester abroad at the National Film & Television School in the UK. During her time at NYU, Isabella also had the opportunity to do an Advanced Poetry program in Florence, Italy. Upon her graduation, she was awarded the Founders' Day Award from NYU for her consistent outstanding scholarship.
Throughout the course of her artistic journey, Isabella has found that creating art both serves as a way to tell her own story as well as the stories of those who may struggle to do so for themselves. Being the child of two passionate lawyers, she grew up watching her parents tirelessly advocate for their often misunderstood and overlooked clients. Although it may seem like she chose a wildly different path from her parents, Isabella finds her work as a storyteller to be a form of advocacy for those unable or in need of support to tell their own stories. She believes that storytelling is one of the most powerful tools to expose injustice and inequality as well as way to promote the importance of empathy, human connection, and healing. It is her hope that her work encourages others to share their stories and inspires positive change.
